Exercise stations help rev up a walk in the park

No, you don't have to join a pricey gym to achieve your New Year's resolution to get fit. You can find cool outdoor exercise stations at several city parks around town, courtesy of San Antonio Parks and Recreation, and they're free to use.

Apache Creek Linear Park, 4239 W. Commerce St.; Cuellar Park, 5626 San Fernando St.; and Garza Park, 1450 Mira Vista, offer Energi Total Body Fitness Systems by Playworld Systems, which consist of five stationary pieces of equipment for resistance training, cardio exercise, stretching and balance exercises.

Head to John James Park, 1300 Rittiman Road, to find Health Trail equipment by Play and Park Structures, which allows you work up a sweat on the cardio walker or muscle up on the body-weight equipment. Lions Field Park, 2809 Broadway, will receive equipment designed especially for seniors in February.
