Lean Manufacturing

In 2004, Playworld Systems transformed its entire operation into a lean manufacturing enterprise. Under the new system, all playsystems and play equipment are made when they’re ordered, so we’re not wasting energy and materials to make and store excess inventory you don’t want. Since we overhauled our operations we’ve:

  • Reduced our manufacturing time from 45 days to as little as 9 days.
  • Reduced our inventory by 45%, allowing us to produce on demand and eliminate excess inventory.
  • Improved our on-time delivery promise from 88% to 97%.
  • Recycled 90% of the waste we do make.
An Environmentally Responsible Supply Chain
In 2008, Playworld Systems evaluated its entire supply chain, and formally requested each of our vendors to adopt our guidelines for carbon footprint reduction. For those who couldn’t, we took the time to seek new partners who could. Today, we have restructured our entire supply chain to include over 115 green vendors who meet our strict requirements for quality and environmental responsibility.

On top of that, 71% of our manufacturing supplies come from within 150 miles of Playworld Systems’ manufacturing facilities, which means:

  • Less fuel burned transporting materials
  • Less waste from excess inventory
  • More local jobs
Green & Clean Facilities
When you walk into the Playworld Systems manufacturing facilities, you’re entering a world of green. In 2005, we transformed our entire lighting system to reduce harmful mercury content and decrease our energy consumption by 170,000 kilowatt hours annually. And all of our equipment receives extensive maintenance to save energy and eliminate air pollutants.
